Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel. Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent. Airspace Engagements Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies. In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region. Iran's Declared Retaliation The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning. That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime. Regional Fallout In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran. The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles". "Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added. Officials reported missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian. The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
