Israelis have come together around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state memorials until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent representative knowledgeable about the negotiations indicated that an late session of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the earlier meeting finished without tangible results, due to differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet produce any significant progress," but mentioned that mediators are working hard to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict governance of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the incident on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were killed and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location seems like home now and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can relax again. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the families of the abducted. Israel states forty-eight continue in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the captives to return. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the war to finish in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the site of the music event, grieving people assembled to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, area and locality areas and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the night arrives, the fear appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are lying together, clinging, especially my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we check the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area said it had received the remains of several people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported another two victims had been brought there. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for help to the southern area, medics stated.
