This comes despite yellow warnings for snow over northern Scotland. "An icy New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so additional clothing will be necessary," said the weather service. Displays Under Open but Chilly Skies Across the UK, the weather is expected to be suited to fireworks displays, with no rain and open skies. The mercury are due to be chilly, making extra layers essential, said forecasters. In more northern areas, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster. Extensive Snow Warnings for New Year's Day Heading into Friday, snow alerts are active across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England. Travel is likely to be affected. The public are advised to plan for delays for journeys on the road. Delays and cancellations are anticipated on trains and buses. The Mercury Forecast to Drop Further Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to drop further as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to batter the north of the country. About 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks. Medical Warnings Released Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C. Authorities explained this meant the weather was likely to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This encompasses a potential rise in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those aged 65 or over.
